Kliniken Schmieder
Quality Leader in Neurological Rehabilitation For decades, Kliniken Schmieder has been dedicated to providing the highest standard of care for neurological patients. As a family-run institution with six interconnected clinics in Baden-Württemberg, we are internationally recognized as a Competence Centre for Neurology. Our commitment to innovation, excellence, and research has established us as one of the world’s leading neurological rehabilitation providers. As a pioneer in this field, we have helped shape the history of neurological rehabilitation, setting new medical and therapeutic standards. We treat patients with all levels of severity—most in Germany, but many also come from around the world for specialized care. Founded in 1950 by Prof. Dr. Friedrich Schmieder, who is considered a forerunner of modern neurological rehabilitation, our philosophy has always been based on his belief: even long after brain injury, intensive treatment can improve neurological performance. This principle is reflected in our motto: “Never give up!”, inspiring patients with strength, courage, and hope throughout their recovery journey. Each patient receives a personalized treatment plan addressing physical, cognitive, speech, and psychological functions, with the goal of restoring independence and, whenever possible, reintegration into professional life. Today, with 2,200 employees across six clinics, we care for 14,000 neurological patients annually, covering the full spectrum of rehabilitation phases (A to D/E) — from acute care after stroke or traumatic brain injury to long-term recovery. Our commitment to progress is reinforced by the Lurija Institute for Rehabilitation and Health Sciences, established in 1997 in cooperation with the University of Konstanz. Through national and international collaborations with leading universities, we drive cutting-edge research and develop new therapy strategies. The annual Schmieder-Foundation Award further promotes innovation among young neurological scientists.
